Dark Horse Comics new manga announcement at their Anime Expo panel was an Evangelion spin-off manga, called "Neon Genesis Evangelion: the Shinji Ikari Raising Project." This is different from the main Evangelion manga based off the anime, which has been ongoing for over 10 years now due to extremely long waits in between chapters. It's also different from the Angelic Days manga, as well as the new Evangelion Academy story.
This Eva series is based on a Japanese game of the same name where the player "raises" main character Shinji. Okay, it's not quite like a human version of Tamagotchi or Digimon, but rather you're the one who chooses his paths in life. Yeah it's pretty weird stuff, but the manga version is a bit more normal. As far I can tell it's a slice-of-life kind of story. It's been published in Japan since 2005, so it's an ongoing title in Shonen Ace, the same magazine that publishes the main Evangelion story. Dark Horse will start publishing "Shinji Ikari Raising Project" in early spring or early summer 2009.
